What AI can do in Blender
Connect ChatGPT, Claude, Codex, Qwen Code or another AI through Blender Bridge, and it builds scenes, lights them, animates and prepares files right in your Blender. The AI works through Blender's official Python API, so the whole program is open to it: modeling, nodes, materials, lighting, animation, physics, rendering, editing and export. Below are Blender's areas as listed in the official Blender 5.2 manual, with an example request for each. To connect your AI, see How to connect AI to Blender.
Modeling
Meshes, curves, surfaces, text, volumes, modifiers, booleans, subdivision surfaces. The AI builds single objects and whole scenes: a room, a street, a game level.
Geometry Nodes and procedural work
Node graphs for scattering, arrays, procedural generation and parametric assets. The AI builds the nodes so a single parameter changes the object.
Materials, textures and UVs
Shader nodes, Principled BSDF, procedural textures, glass, metal, subsurface scattering, UV unwrapping, baking. The AI finds textures on Poly Haven and ambientCG, and models and HDRI environments on Poly Haven, crediting the source.
Lighting and cameras
Studio and natural light, HDRI, color temperature, volumetric fog, focal length, depth of field, framing.
Animation and rigging
Keyframes, animation curves, shape keys, armatures and skinning, constraints, drivers, Rigify, camera moves.
Physics and simulation
Rigid bodies, cloth, soft bodies, fluids, smoke, particles, hair, force fields, collisions, simulation baking.
Rendering and compositing
Cycles, EEVEE and Workbench, samples, denoising, render passes, compositing nodes, image and video output. For long renders and animations, request background rendering in a separate Blender: your open scene stays responsive, you see progress and can stop that render.
Grease Pencil and video editing
Drawing and 2D animation in 3D space, and video editing in Blender from frames and clips.
Import and export
FBX, glTF/GLB, USD, OBJ, STL, PLY, Alembic, SVG. A dedicated export step for each destination: GLB for the web and Godot, FBX for Unity and Unreal Engine, USDZ for AR, and STL in millimeters for 3D printing. Export respects the scene scale, sets the axes and reports units, file size and material warnings. More in Export to Unity, Unreal Engine, Godot and 3D printing.
Scripting and automation
Batch processing, renaming, custom tools, repeated operations across dozens of objects.
What helps the AI get it right
- The Blender API reference for the available Blender versions and a search of the Blender 5.2 manual, so the AI checks real function and parameter names instead of guessing.
- Scene screenshots, so the AI can look at its own work and fix mistakes.
- A reference photo: give it a photo and the AI compares the render with it side by side.
- Checkpoints: Blender Bridge saves the AI's steps, so you can return the scene to the one you need and undo the return.
The stronger the AI model you choose and the clearer the task, the more precise the result. A good request names the object, size, position and mood.
