How to connect AI to Blender
Two ways: a browser extension, or an MCP server. Both reach the same Blender on your own machine.
In short
Blender Bridge connects an AI assistant to the Blender that is already open on your computer. You describe a scene in plain language, the assistant writes Blender Python, the code runs in your Blender window, and a screenshot of the result goes back to the assistant so it can see what it made and correct itself.
Nothing runs on our servers. The connection stays inside your machine and requires a pairing key.
What you need first
- Blender — installed separately from blender.org. Blender Bridge does not bundle it and does not modify your installation.
- The Blender Bridge application — it holds the connection between the AI and Blender.
- An AI assistant that can write code. Any will do: you are not tied to one vendor, and you do not buy AI access from us.
- Windows. The only supported system for now.
Choose how to connect
There are two ways, and you never have to switch between them. One is enough.
| Browser extension | MCP server | |
|---|---|---|
| For | People who chat with an AI in a browser | People working in an AI agent or code editor |
| Where you type | In an ordinary AI web chat | In Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, VS Code and similar |
| What you do | Ask, then press run in the panel | Ask; the agent runs, looks at the result and continues |
| Better when | You want to see every step | You want the work delegated |
In detail: connecting through the extension and connecting through MCP.
The common sequence
- Install Blender if you do not have it.
- Install the Blender Bridge application and open it.
- Press Install add-on. The add-on appears in Blender the next time you start it.
- Sign in. Sign-in opens in your browser; afterwards the application receives a pairing key.
- Choose your door: install the browser extension, or copy the MCP registration from the application's settings into your agent.
- Open Blender and leave it open. Ask the assistant for something simple and check that it appears in the scene.
How to tell it is working
The application shows two indicators: the HTTP bridge and the Blender server. Both must read Online. If the first is online and the second is not, Blender is closed or the add-on is disabled.
The simplest check: ask the assistant to create a cube. It should appear within a second or two, and the operation should show up in the bridge history.
